Foreign Language Instruction via Interactive Television:
An Experiment in Mandarin Chinese

This paper will report on a federally funded University of Hawai'i initiative to develop a prototype to deliver LCTL instruction via the Hawai'i Interactive Television System (HITS) to learners in five studio classrooms on three islands. The project also includes a video component featuring instructional segments filmed in and around Beijing and a pedagogical component for ITV foreign language teacher training.
